The purpose of the Student Council shall be to provide service and leadership to the College of Dentistry students, clubs and organizations as a non-profit representative governing body.

Matthew Stephens, President, is a 4th year student from Dallas, Texas. Matthew attended PrairieView A&M University and received his B.S. in Biology. He has served on the Books and Instruments Committee and is Module 3 Leader. As Student Council President, it is his  hope to encourage students to be more involved in the activities and dealings 

of Student Council, HUCD administration, and Howard University. 

It is his endeavor to continue the legacy of holding up the ideals of Truth and Service by achieving greater success in the College of Dentistry!

Clarke Allen, Vice President, is a 3rd year student from 

Mendenhall, MS.  She is a graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana and former President of her dental class. Clarkes' mission is to provide care for people of underserved communities especially those who are disproportionately affected by inadequate medical care. She desires to focus on education and preventative care to reduce the numbers of potentially emergent cases, and plans to have strong working relationships with other health care providers to ensure that the overall quality of life is improved for the people encounter.

Marissa Spruell, Recording Secretary, is a 2nd year student from Winter Haven, FL. She is a graduate of Florida Southern College and former president of her class. Marissa plans on pursuing General Dentistry with an emphasis in Esthetic Dentistry. She hopes to open a dental practice in her hometown, dedicated to enhancing overall oral health and self-confidence for her patients. Understanding the importance of giving back and representation, she plans on creating a mentorship program for minority students interested in pursuing Dentistry.


Jade Lopez, Corresponding Secretary, is a 3rd year student from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She has served as the 2019-2020 Lead Orientation Ambassador and Director of Public Relations for the Class of 2022. Through her efforts of managing the class social media page, she steadily increased engagement and visibility of HUCD through the eyes of the Class of 2022. She hopes to transform her platform of visibility into a reality by not only connecting the HUCD Student Body with faculty but also with Howard University and other institutions.


Daniel Young, Treasurer, is a 4th year dental student from Summerville, SC.  He received the Bachelor of Science in biology from The University of the District of Columbia. He is formerly served as Secretary of Student Council and is currently President of Delta Mu Chi Fraternity, Inc.  Daniel plans to pursue a career in Pediatric Dentistry with a special emphasis on care and advocacy for children with special needs.

Sheld'onia Evans, GSA Representative, is a 3rd year dental student from Miami, Fl. hometown: Miami, FL.  She is former president of her class.  Her mantra in life is "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10 


Travis Kimble, Howard University Student Association Senator, is a 4th year dental student from Atlanta, Ga. He currently serves on the executive board of Delta Mu Chi Fraternity, Inc. and is President of The Academy of General Dentistry; Howard Chapter. Alongside from eliminating health disparities amongst the underserved and

immunocompromised, Travis aims to become a mentor to underrepresented minorities to spark their interest within the health science and public health sectors.


Tarik Mitchell, 

Howard University Student Association Senator

Tarik is a 3rd year dental student from Miami, Fl. ​He believes that one must find their purpose and while in route, be sure to enjoy every bit of it. During the process and far after,  take the good from every situation, remain humble, have faith, and know that God is faithful. His purpose is to play a role in eliminating health care disparities with an emphasis of treating those from underserved areas. 

Adetounmi Yemisi Thomas, Miss HUCD, is a 4th year dental student from Dallas, TX by way of Lagos, Nigeria. She is currently serves on the executive board of The Delta Phi Sigma Sorority, Inc. and is involved in various organizations at the college such as SNDA, AAWD and more. She is very passionate about photography and enjoys capturing great moments. She is grateful to be a part of the Howard Community and serve as the official Hostess for the college for the 2020-2021 year. Her mission is to help people see what she sees in them, and help people achieve a true sense of confidence and to inspire people to take full control of their health.

Ryan Turner, Mr. HUCD, is a 4th year dental student for Chicago, IL. Ryan currently serves as the Membership Chairman of Delta Mu Chi Fraternity Inc. and has been involved in numerous organizations throughout his dental educational career including SNDA, HUSA and more. It is Ryan’s mission to serve as a beacon of light by encouraging others to strive for greatness and achieve their dreams. One of his favorite quotes is, “The service you do for others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth.” – Muhammad Ali
