The Mission of the Howard University College of Dentistry is to provide a dental education of exceptional quality to qualified individuals, with particular emphasis on recruiting promising African Americans and other historically underrepresented and disadvantaged students. The College is dedicated to attracting, sustaining, and developing a cadre of faculty who, through teaching, research, and service, are committed to producing distinguished, compassionate, and culturally sensitive graduates. Furthermore, the College is dedicated to providing high-quality oral health care to our patients and in improving the quality of oral health in our local, national, and global communities.
Our Vision is to provide exemplary education, service, and research that promotes patient-centered, collaborative care and advocacy for the elimination of health disparities.

A distinct characteristic of a Howard University dental education is the experience within a family atmosphere of students, faculty and staff. Student organizations and special events such as new student orientation, white coat ceremonies, officer’s installation, community health fairs, honors and awards programs, and graduation, all provide an equipoise to the academic experience.
At HUCD, a student's personal and professional growth as a leader in the profession and the community are built through professional dental organizations. Our students also become deeply engaged in concerns that impact the community and the dental profession in practice, policy, advocacy, and research.
